Wednesday, October 22, 2008
The Gate Car Park in Newcastle has been awarded a prestigious European parking Award.
The European Standard Parking Award was designed by the European Parking Association to improve the image of parking in multi-storey car parks.
Awarded to car parks that meet the rigorous criteria stipulated by The European Parking Association, the European Standard Parking Award recognises the achievement of a European Standard for safety and customer friendliness in car parks.
The European Parking Association considered a wide range of criteria in judging The Gate’s car park as deserving of this award. These criteria included the suitability and usability of car park facilities such as entry/exit points, lifts and stairwells, lighting and pedestrian routes. Also taken into account was the high level of security and maintenance provided at The Gate’s car park by their owners Propinvest.
Phil Taylor, North East Development Manager of the British Parking Association was at The Gate to see the Award presented by the Deputy Chief Constable of Northumbria Police, Sue Sim. He said: “We are delighted that The Gate’s car park has been awarded the European Standard Parking Award. There are very few EPAs awarded in the North East and the criteria is difficult to meet as standards are expected to be extremely high.
"A great measure of the importance of this award is that Northumbria Police’s Deputy Chief Constable attended the award presentation and I know that the police are impressed by the efforts made by The Gate to ensure the safety and comfort of their customers”.
The Gate’s Marketing Manager Jude Leitch, accepted the award on behalf of the car park. She said: “We’re very proud of the service provided by our car park staff and feel that they richly deserve this award. We know that visitors to The Gate’s car park will continue to experience facilities and service on a par with the best in Europe”.
